(2018) For the first time, I got to officially join De “Dikke Show”.
This summer, artist Boxie asked me if I wanted to become the youngest member of De DIKKE SHOW. My answer was a wholehearted “Yes!” I consider it an honour to be part of this group. De “Dikke Show” is a Hoorn-based artist collective with a rotating line-up. At the moment, it consists of the Hoorn artists Jaap Stiemer, Boxie, Botox, Arno van der Pol, Jorg de Vos, Wilfredo Daalmeijer, Mies Reus, and my own little person. The concept of de “Dikke Show” is simple: we give a dikke show (which means something like a Big show). The public doesn’t just see the final result, they watch us create it, live. We paint over each other’s work, under each other’s arms, around one another and yes, sometimes that causes a bit of friction. We keep going until a bold, powerful piece emerges.
Over the past weeks and months, we’ve been working on a panel measuring 800 by 180 cm, with the theme The 17th Century. Naturally, I added a few critical strokes of my own along the way. The former Poster Museum (Affichemuseum) on the Grote Oost kindly gave us access to one of their rooms so we could give a dikke show. Here are some images of the panel.
