(2019) I’m proud and grateful to say that I gave EVERY SINGLE CHILD at SBO De Wissel my workshop: “Colouring Outside the Lines with STHOM.”
Through a short video, I invited the kids to come and colour outside the lines in my studio. And that’s exactly what happened. Over the course of two days, the entire school came to my studio and worked together on one large painting. There was only one important rule: “You can’t do it wrong — you can only do it right.” I did my best to get every child, one by one, excited to throw paint around with joy. The next morning, I sat on the floor (from a preschooler’s perspective) and looked at the result. I could tell it was a success. The kids’ energy exploded off the canvas. It was one massive blast of colour. I think this might be the most vibrant splash painting ever made in my studio. Over the weekend, I finished the piece by adding one of my signature “Little Figure.”
That way, the colour explosion rose up into the sky, adding a sense of imagination to the whole thing or something like that. On Monday morning, I unveiled the final artwork together with the youngest and oldest student of SBO De Wissel. It now hangs in the school.
